Introduction
The President of India gave assent to The Central Universities Act, 2009 that envisages establishing and incorporating universities for teaching and research in the various states.
The Central University of Jharkhand came into being under this Act on 1st of March, 2009. The Visitor of the Central University of Jharkhand, Her Excellency, Shrimati Pratibha Devisingh Patil, appointed Dr. Darlando T. Khathing, an internationally renowned scientist and a distinguished academic administrator, as its first Vice Chancellor.
CUJ focus will be on research in cutting-edge technologies.

The Logo Colours
Three colours of the logo have been chosen with reference to what the ancient Upanishads have to say on colours:
Green : - Green is reminiscent of the strong connection between nature and humanity. It symbolises vitality and growth and is reflective of the greenery that abounds in the region.
Maroon/Yellow Ring : The maroon-yellow ring weaves together the threads of existence and dynamic energy with the grace of simplicity and the depth of wisdom.
Golden Yellow : - Yellow is symbolic of optimism and the boundless energy of youth. It exudes the promise of knowledge, wisdom and prosperity.
Wheat Crown : - The wheat crown is a symbol of hope, prosperity, and sustenance, depicting the sustainable agricultural practices of Jharkhand.
Banyan Tree : - The Banyan Tree embodies growth and strength. It instils self-awareness through quiet reflection and meditation.
