He has been volunteering on the board of Solar Cooker International(SCI), serving as president for the last 3 years. He has also been trained as a Climate Change Leader (trained by Al Gore, Climate Reality Founder & Chairman; former Vice President of the USA). The program ran quite successfully under the clubbing of Department of Energy Engineering and Center of Excellence in Green and Efficient Energy Technology (CoE-GEET).
To felicitate the distinguished guest, three persons present were - Prof. S. K. Samdarshi, Coordinator, Center of Excellence in Green and Efficient Energy Technology (CoE-GEET); Dr. D. B. Lata, Head, Department of Energy Engineering; and Prof. H.P. Singh, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology. During the program,Dr. Rawat put stressed on the actions to be taken in the light of 17 SDGs by relating it to the climate change-driven disasters like floods inside and outside India.
After the program, he also visited GEET where there was a specialdiscussion on the successful implementation of SCI-basedprograms. SCI works mostly in Africa with refugee camps - the technicalities address solar drying, solar sanitization, solar crematorium, solar cookers, and solar PV for Refrigeration and air-conditioning.SCI received Keeling Curve prize 2021 for implementation of programs based on clean-energy access through decarbonisation.
Apart from these, the solar cooker has alternative application ofpasteurisation of water (69 deg. C) for consumption by rural people, using wax as a measure of Water PasturizationIndicator (WAPI). Special mention of works carried out by related people in Europe was also discussed.
