The Department of English Studies came into being with the very inception of Central University of Jharkhand and started its first academic program in the session 2009-10. Ever since it was established in 2009, the Centre has emerged as a major Centre for teaching and learning English literature and Language. The Centre offers UG, M.A. and Ph. D. programs in English.

• To stimulate and develop the imagination and critical thinking of the students through teaching and research and to develop the department as a centre for academic excellence and high-quality research.

• The department endeavours to support students in comprehending both the subject matter and methodologies within literary studies. Our emphasis is on fostering an interdisciplinary perspective, reflected in the diverse array of courses available, including Women’s Studies, Film Studies, Environmental Studies, Disabilities Studies, and Diaspora Studies. Graduates of our program are equipped to pursue careers in education, research, law, journalism, and publishing. Our commitment to liberal arts is evident in our policies, as well as our teaching and research-intensive curriculum.
