The Department of Geology, established in 2023 under the School of Natural Resource Management (SNRM) at the Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi. It offers postgraduate courses in geology, including a two-year M.Sc. (Geology) program designed in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP). The department actively promotes teaching and fundamental research across diverse areas of geoscience. It employs smart teaching techniques such as ICT multimedia tools, online pedagogy, whiteboards, 3D models, animations, seminars, mini-projects, dissertations, and field excursions to equip students with cutting-edge knowledge and research skills. The department is well-equipped with multiple smart classrooms and state-of-the-art laboratories to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
The Department of Geology focuses on providing a comprehensive understanding of Earth and planetary materials and processes, preparing students for diverse careers in geosciences and contributing to sustainable solutions for Earth-related societal challenges. Its research activities address critical issues related to the physical Earth. The postgraduate programs in geology lay a strong foundation for careers in geology, public policy, environmental risk assessment, and related fields. Graduates also gain a thorough understanding of climate change, the sustainability of Earth's resources, and the complex interplay between human activity and the environment, positioning them to tackle pressing global challenges effectively.

1. To build a premier department for the under-graduate, post-graduate studies and Ph.D. research in the field of Geosciences.
2. To develop core facilities and State of art research laboratories to compliments teaching and research.
3. To gradually develop the geology courses from graduation to post doctoral level so that students could effectively serve the nation in various capacities in different scientific organizations like GSI, CWGB, ONGC, DAE, ISRO, CSIR, DRDO, etc., research institutes and universities of the country.
