The Department of Chemistry was established in 2010 with an objective to provide quality education in the advanced areas of Chemical Sciences and to produce excellent scientific manpower to meet the needs of Universities/Institutes, research institutes and industries. The vision of the Department in align with the University and emphasizes the learning process should be reflected in both student and faculty achievements and growth. The Department has thrust to grow as an excellent teaching and research Department in the country and across the globe.
The department has adopted National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020) courses and offers an integrated 5-years (B. Sc. and M.Sc.) program with a provision to take diversified courses up to 40 % of the total credit to obtain a B. Sc. (Hon's) degree after 4-years. The Department encourages students to take MOOC courses from the “SWAYAM” portal to improve their subject understanding. The Department is also offering Ph. D. programme in the broad area of organic, inorganic, physical, biophysical, bioinorganic, analytical, environmental chemistry, renewable energy chemistry and material chemistry. The Department is determined and committed to provide world-class quality education to its students and stakeholders through its excellent course curriculum, innovative teaching and learning processes and benchmark evaluation systems. Students in the department are monitored and evaluated through sessional tests, seminars, assignments, mid and end-semester examinations. The Department has currently ten dedicated faculty members to teach both UG, PG students and guide Ph.D. scholars. During the last thirteen years, the department has received several research projects from different funding agencies; DST, Govt. of India, DBT, Govt. of India, UGC Govt. of India and recently the department has received special financial support through the DST-FIST, Govt. of India grand to strengthen the research facilities in the department. The department has produced a good number of research scholars and the faculty members have published in high impact reputed national and international journals, book chapters and edited books. The Department has a vibrant academic environment both for faculties and students.

The students completing B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree from the Department of chemistry will have many careers prospective to choose either higher studies or settle with good jobs. The courses have been designed not only to meet the academic needs but also for industry requirements. In addition to the excellent course curriculum, the Department has focused on the development of soft skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and leadership qualities of students. The Department organizes career counseling interacting sessions with the students and provides them with the present employment situation in academic institutions and industries. This helps the students to search and find the best opportunities of their choice. The Department faculties continuously encourages students to continue higher studies such as Ph.D. and write national level competitive examinations to grab the leadership positions with attractive salaries. The Studies aspiring to join industries have been encouraged and trained in different companies through internship programs. The Department organizes seminars and conferences to sensitizeand help aspiring students to connect the industries for placement. Further, the Department has also arranged communication and public speaking lectures for students and prepared them from campus to career journey in academic and industries. Many students from the Department have topped in NPTEL courses. The pass out students of the department have joined foreign universities/Institutes for higher studies. The students of the Department have qualified in national examinations such as JAM/GATE/NET-JRF and joined IISc, IIT’s, NIT’s, other professional institutions, pharma and chemical industries (NTPC, ONGC etc.).
