Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) today held Akshay Urja Diwas
Ranchi, Aug 20: The Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) today held Akshay Urja Diwas with a day long programme stressing the need of developing and deploying new and renewable energy for supplementing the energy requirement of the country.
The Centre for Energy Engineering of CUJ and Energiea, an energy society formed by the students of centre for energy engineering organised the programme that included paper presentation, quiz competition, drama, painting competition and essay competition.
The inaugural function was graced by Prof Arvind Kumar, head of Mechanical Engineering, BIT, Mesra, as chief guest in presence of Prof S K Tewari, VC in-charge of CUJ, Prof Arunabha Datta, dean of academics, Prof S K Samdarshi, head of Centre for Energy Engineering and Mr Shashank, a leading entrepreneur of solar energy in the state besides other faculty members and students.
The chief guest was of the opinion that the country must increase energy and should learn not to waste the same. “Efficient use of energy will make others treat us a developed nation”, Prof Kumar said.
Prof Tewary, also dean of Mass Communication, recalled what he had experienced during his stay in Gujarat where the state government successfully implemented the solar energy (renewable energy) programme.
Dean of academemics, Arunabha Datta also spoke in brief about the various sources of renewable energies.
Mr Shashank in his speech said an electric bulb of 50W consumes about 324 kg of coal per year bringing home the point about the amount of coal the country consumes only on electric bulbs. He said the technology has improved and the cost was not too high where solar energy could play a major role in saving our energy.
The head of the centre expressed happiness over the fact the entire programme was organised by the students. Prof Samdarshi made a brief account of achievements of his centre.
The VC in-charge also inaugurated the logo of the Energiea.
