Area of Specialization

Drosophila muscle and neuro-muscular junction development

Research Interest:

My research interest involves understanding the genetic mechanisms of neuro-muscle development and function, using the genetically tractable system,Indirect Flight Muscles (IFMs) of the fruitfly, Drosophila melanogaster .We use classical and molecular genetic tools to generate mutations which affect either development or function of the IFMs.These mutations are characterised by using molecular, biochemical and biophysical assays, electron and confocal microscopy and behavioural tests. We also induce second site mutations that enhance or suppress a particular muscle mutant phenotype. These are then subjected to in-vivo and in-vitro analyses to understand the gene-gene or protein-protein interactions
